It is not known when Grim Dawn will be available. The alpha will come out sometime next year (Q2? Not sure...), but that's really only meant for testing purposes. I don't think they're ready to make a reliable estimated release date just yet.

And welcome to the forums!

The alpha was originally estimated to be out Q1, but iirc the devs said they pushed it back cause of all the extra work they put into the engine (be thankful for it lol).

Yeah, we got a little carried away with new features as well but I think they will be well worth the wait. Originally we only intended to take the existing TQ technology the start out small by creating a game in a new fictional world with all new content but mostly the same tech. The estimate of Q1 2010 was based on that plan.

At some point we decided people had higher expectations and we needed to do something grander than that. I think everyone will be quite pleased once they experience the results of that extra effort.

Now we've pretty much locked down the feature list and are working hard to finish the game. We have a lot of environments developed and gameplay systems set up but we still have a lot of content to build out.

Man, it already sounds like it's more advanced than Diablo 3! haha seriously, whenever I try and find out an estimated release date, people talk about the end of this year, all the way up to 2012.

It's coming along so nice though. I bet you guys don't even have time to take compliments.

Oh no, we definitely do. We built a lot of compliment acceptance time into the schedule.

hmm "originally using tq technology"? hmm tq is a great game but very linear and very long

whatever it is im sure GD will be good

Well, they're building Grim Dawn on the TQ engine (and tweaking it). But that's no reason to make the game long and linear.

I wouldn't be afraid of that tbh. It'll be less linear and probably shorter, but I'm sure it'll be still big enough to enjoy it fully if not more. And they plan to release DLC's ofcourse, to increase the game. Anyway, the forums contains a bunch of information on what they're trying to do with the length and linearity of the game :)

I just hope I get to play it before I die. :)

Well, they're not Blizzard or Valve (yet). But they got the project in their own hands, not reliant on a publisher. So I'm betting they want to polish and increase it enough before they'll release it. That's a good thing honestly, too many games are brought out with a lot of potential, but fail to realize most of it because they were released before they were ready.

Well, Blizzard and Valve also polish a lot actually, lol. Still waiting for Halflife 2 Episode 3 and Diablo 3 though... :/

Though we're not under a publisher deadline, we certainly don't want to operate like this for longer than necessary. This is a tough way to develop a game and I think we're all very much looking forward to making some money so we can get a real office, pay everyone full-time salaries, and make the next release a little more grand. Or at the very least, get it done faster. Things go agonizing slow sometimes with so many people working part-time.

So, on one hand, we really want to finish the game but, on the other, we want to make sure it is going to impress people when we release it otherwise all this work and personal sacrifice will be for nothing.

Yeah, rather do it Torchlight style, than Hellgate:London style.

Stick to what your are good at, and get the best out of that, rather than chasing the dream of the feature-packed uber-game that does it all, just to come to the conclusion that you wanted too much at once.

nice.. and its better to take the time needed to develope it rather than rushing it to meet someones elses deadline

I willing to wait. I've been waiting for somethings for a very long time. Grim Dawn seems to be shaping up much more quickly...

Guys, just lie. Say it'll be in beta Q3 2012 or something, then when it's earlier, people will crap themselves with glee.

they are probably playing their game and not developing, like a student playing video games and not doing their homework :D

jp jp, you guys are working hard and it shows in the media section, I nerdgasm every time new pictures are posted; it's coming along very well.

I am eagerly awaiting this game (got the legendary pack already) and have but just one question; does this mean the actual game will take longer than 20 hours to complete? I am actually hoping it will take in the neighborhood of 30+ hours (with all side quests) just because I hate when an awesome RPG comes to an early end...

thanks and I am telling everyone and their mother about GD!
