I wanted to discuss the possibility of legendary weapons, somewhat like Lord of the Rings Online does. I'm not overly familiar with their implementation, but the idea would be that you'd carry a single item with you that would grow in power as you added more found stuff to it.
I can see that in a loot dropping game it might seem to undermine some of the "ohhh shiny new sword!" idea, but this could be compensated for by making the drops be enhancement items for the legendary items.
It's more than just a socket-able item. You'd be able to continuously add found things to it. It might even keep track of its achievements and allow you to build a history with it.
Just a rough idea to spawn a little discussion. Thoughts?

I personally do not like the idea, for exactly the same reason you gave in your post.

I agree that it sounds cool, but with these games I really want to focus on more and shinier loots. Maybe something could be done in the crafting area of this game that allows you to upgrade your items and maybe some sort of tracking system for each weapon or item. I don't know. Tired can't really collect my thoughts well. Try and post something more coherent after some sleep.

I think the feature would work but I don't believe it should be designed with weapons or armor in mind.
I do think it would be interesting to have a charm or talisman that you can have imbued or enchanted with traits throughout the game, be it by finding other items or from completing quests. By making these quests difficult, rare, and exclusive (by that I mean having to choose between completing certain quests and not being able to do them all), you add to the length of the game and it's replayability.
That's just my two cents.

The relic idea, I totally support. I think it's a very neat feature to add in a game where mostly, you pick up the new shiny, but you have this one relic you are also working on to help you become a beating machine. It also gives the player one item he can specifically tailor to his playstyle, without taking away that feeling of "gotta find X that fits me perfectly."

The relic idea does broaden it a bit and moved it to not competing with the weapons and armor everyone is going to want to find... I like it!

One thing I think is important in the weapons / equipment is legendary having a beautiful appearance and excellent bonuses. I've seen weapons in TQ very beautiful, but do not have good bonuses for the characters, however there are good weapons but ugly aesthetically.
I know that crate can will make equipment with a nice appearance and good bonuses, for example, here is a video with some equipment tha we make to our mod (is no finish):
