Since the whole package is on offer for €5,99 on Steam for the weekend, I was wondering if it is a worthy game? It gets decent reviews, but nothing outstanding. The concept seems appealing, but it really depends on how it was worked out.

I'm doubting because I'm not really a fan of scifi stuff (safe for postapocalyptic settings). And I have a huge backlog of games I still have to (download and) start playing.

I'm not looking for a decent game with good-for-money value, I only want to add games that are very good to add to my backlog. Steam offers have forced me to be picky about my choice in games :)

So, any experiences with this game?

I'd never heard of this game so I youtubed it. Looks interesting! Seems like you build your fleet up to fight another fleet, and the action takes care of itself. Pretty cool game for people who aren't particularly great at micromanaging.

Having played EVE for a few months (and quitting) I still have a void to fill of a space game. Not sure if this would fill the void but it looks like a game where you could just chill out and have some fun.

I *may* be interested in buying it if there was enough people from here to play against, providing there is multiplayer.. I haven't read anything about the game.

I'm not a fan of micro (although I guess I'm not really bad at it, I just think that fast clicking skills have nothing to do with tactical thinking, although almost all RTS games are infected with it), so that's a big plus.

I prefer to play coop games with others, as opposed to versus, so I'm probably not going to go online with it if I decide to get it..

I think there's a demo for it.
It's entirely about designing your fleet and not about "playing" it. It can't really be compared to an rts or whatever, and is very indie. It's made by just one guy.

Well, it's not really the money that's the big issue, but my backlog. I mean, I can try out the demo and all, but I don't feel like wasting time on something I probably won't like anyway. Problem is, I think I just might like this and don't want to miss out on the deal :)

So, just looking for impressions from fellow gamers.

I have played it some and enjoy it. Beating the default battles is fairly easy... but maximizing your efficiency takes a lot of work. The less points you use in your fleet, the more points you get, which you use to unlock better technologies and the other races.

There is no micromanaging the actual battle, but there are a lot of choices with ship design, battle fleet composition, and ship orders.

I haven't done any of the multiplayer, but as I understand it, anyone can post a challenge (design a fleet and set rules of engagement) for anyone to try an beat.

At any rate, Steam has the demo. I recommend giving it a try.

I would pick it up if I didn't already own and love AI War.

If you wait a few hours I'll tell you if it's good :P, just got it.

Well, I did try the demo a little, but it didn't give me a much better impression than I already had. I'm guessing this is a game that requires some more investment to really get a good feeling for.

Well I'm not sure what impression you have of the game but I dig it, it's probably not something you can play a lot of, but in small doses it's great.

If I had to sum it up in two words it would be "Space Chess".

You design your space ships, give them specific orders and just watch the carnage.

Several races with very little technical differences (some race specific upgrades, but it's mostly the ships that are different).

Multiplayer challenges against other people. Yeah that's a short summary of what the game is, I find it to be very, very complex and thoroughly enjoy playing it.

The dude is whipping up some sort of campaign mode by the looks of it. No info other than what I've seen here though.

truth but i own them both and my fun is not reduced because of it,

its cheep and fills a different hole, plus the dev is a one man in a room job and this is his baby he is currently making a campaign where u jump around a star system and hold planets and what not the best i can envision what he is doing is to cross GSB with Neptune's Pride (http://np.ironhelmet.com/),

there are heaps of good indi devs that have cheep games i buy them just to support them i dont care if they are the next eve they are fun for a day and i have blown $20 on worse.

GsB is a slow thinking tactical game its all about planning and minimisation, i enjoy it while im browsing

I did buy it, it'll take a while before I start playing it though :)
